WELCOME - We are Quintessence, a six piece, female fronted R&B band based in beautiful Vancouver British Columbia. We play all of your favorite, danceable, R&B, Funk, Motown, Classic Rock and New Country hits from the 60's to 10's.

Whether it be for your Dance, Wedding, Birthday Party, Corporate Function, Fundraiser, etc, our lively and fun filled performances are sure to please. All we ask is that you bring your dancing shoes and best moves, as our music is sure to get you up and moving.

In addition to great music, Quintessence is also happy to offer background dinner music, full PA, lighting system and client microphone use.

GARRY

GARRY - Guitar & Vocals

Garry is a local musician with a long history of playing. Garry has travelled across Canada and Europe as a member of the Canadian Forces. For 25 years, he was a soldier during the day and a guitarist at night. He played in several local bands including "JOKER" and "The Ray Myers Band". Garry is a left handed guitarist. On the sideline, he likes to repair guitars, pedals and tube amps, and has a collection of lefty guitars: Larrivee LS-4, Telecaster, and a Strat.

Quintessence's dance-friendly attitude and music is a great place to showcase Garry's talents, who’s goal is to play music for people who love to sing, dance, laugh and have a good time.

SHERYL

SHERYL - Keys & Vocals

Sheryl began playing the piano at the age of 5. Later on in life, she entered and graduated from the Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music.

In the 1980's, Sheryl taught piano and accompanied students for the Kiwanis Musical Festival.

From 1993 to 2000, she resided in Las Vegas, where she wrote children's songs & music to compliment her work as a Speech-Language Pathologist.

From 2005 to 2009, she played Keyboards and Organ in the Madison Blues Band. She was also a member of The Community Big Band Jazz Band and now, QUINTESSENCE Band.

Sheryl's musical tastes are varied and includes: Blues, Jazz, Latin and World Music.

JOHN

JOHN - Bass & Vocals

John began studying and playing music at the early age of 7 and received his Licentiate in Music at the age of 23. John's love for the Bass started when, at age 12, he formed a garage band with some friends of his.

John has toured and recorded with many artists, including Sting, John Rowles, James Taylor, Maurice White (E, W & F), Linda Ronstadt and Rita Coolidge. in Australia, South Africa and Canada.

Before joining Quintessence, John played with The Idle Rich, one of the most sort after local gigging bands in Brisbane. John is one of the founding members of Quintessence.

DAVE

DAVE - Drums

Dave's love of music started in Scotland with the Beatles. He started playing guitar at the age of 12, but by age 17 realized that his finger picking skills weren't good enough to get him playing on stage, where he dreamed of being. Instead, Dave purchased an old drum set and learnt how to play.

Dave has worked with many talented original and cover bands/artists in Scotland, Germany and Canada, including touring and opening for The Searchers.

Dave brings an influence of Rock, R&B and Country to Quintessence.

JULIA

Julia - Vocals

Julia’'s family is full of musicians and she began singing at about the same time she started talking. At age 10, she was singing jazz standards with her parents.

In her teens, she performed with musical theatre and studied theatre arts at Grant McEwan College. She performed live theatre at the Citadel, Edmonton, Theatre Calgary, and a number of other venues.

She also performed in many bands in Edmonton, playing in clubs and casinos, and had the opportunity to share the stage with Trooper, Doug and the Slugs, Prism, David Wilcox, and Boney M, among others.

Since moving to Vancouver, she has played with The So Tight Band, Rollaway, Matt Lam/ Adam Jones 10tet, Stronger than Lions, Undercover and Groove Machine
